Imagine experiencing Fiordland from the air, land, and water – an adventure that awaits you in the heart of the New Zealand Alps. This unique excursion allows you to fly in a helicopter, hike through Luxmore Hut, and sail across Lake Te Anau.
Description
We'll meet up at the helicopter base on Lakefront Drive in Te Anau, ready to embark on a thrilling journey through Fiordland National Park from various modes of transport – by air, land, and water. Are you ready? Let's get started!
Our adventure begins as we board a helicopter and ascend to the highest regions of the Fiordland Mountains. For 25 minutes, you'll be treated to awe-inspiring views of Lake Te Anau, the Hidden Lakes of New Zealand, and the majestic peaks of the Main Divide. Our flight path will also take us over the mesmerizing Kepler Mountains, a natural haven that will enchant you at every turn.
Upon landing at Luxmore Hut, a remote mountain refuge and the launch point for our trek, you'll have the option to choose from two hiking routes:
-
Luxmore Hut Trek (2.5 to 3 hours): This scenic hike winds through a lush beech forest as it descends through the Fiordland Mountains along a meandering trail. Our journey concludes at Brod Bay, nestled on the shores of Lake Te Anau.
-
Luxmore Hut and Luxmore Summit Trek (5 to 6 hours): On this extended hike, we'll navigate through the beech forest and venture closer to the Luxmore Summit viewpoint. From this vantage point, you'll enjoy stunning views of New Zealand's South Island. The excursion concludes on the shores of Lake Te Anau.
Boat Return: After completing either hiking route, a brief 10-minute boat ride will transport us back to our starting point, providing a perfect conclusion to this remarkable excursion.
