Taxco Tour
We'll meet at the indicated time at Benito Juarez street in Taxco to start this guided tour of the historic center. Throughout the tour, we'll discover the attractions of this Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town) in the state of Guerrero. Let's go!
Our first stop will be at the ex-convent of San Bernardino de Siena, which was first built with adobe at the end of the 16th century. After being destroyed by fire, it was renovated in 1804 following the neoclassical style prevailing at the time.
After seeing the ex-convent, we'll head to the back of the building to see the statues of penitents, which commemorate Taxco's Holy Week by portraying the different types of penitents that participate in the march.
To continue learning about the history of Taxco, we'll walk to Plaza Borda, aka Zócalo. Did you know that the name of this plaza means, "place where they play ball"? We'll then stop in front of Casa Borda, an impressive building commissioned by José de la Borda in 1759 and currently used as a cultural center.
We'll also pass by the exterior of the Casa Humboldt, the Viceroyalty Art Museum, and the Casa Figueroa (or, Casa de las Lágrimas). Do you know the tragic story that took place behind its walls?
Before finishing our guided tour of Taxco, we'll arrive at the Church of Santa Prisca and San Sebastian. This building is considered one of the most beautiful baroque churches in Mexico and is an emblem of the city!
Finally, we'll say our goodbyes 2 hours later in front of the silver tianguis, small shops in an open-air market that sell all kinds of silver jewelry.
