Description
Day 1: Tashkent - Kokand - Fergana
The adventure begins! We'll pick you up at your hotel in Tashkent and take you to the train station, where we'll board a train for Kokand, a city in the Fergana Valley.
Upon arrival, we'll take a tour of Kokand, visiting the Khudoyar-Khan Palace, the Jami Mosque, and the Norbut-Biy Madrasa. Afterwards, we'll travel by bus to the village of Oq Yer, where we'll visit the workshop of a local craftsman and meet a traditional Kyrgyz family, who will show us one of their main crafts: wool carpets. We'll spend the night in a hotel in Fergana.
Day 2: Fergana - Rishtan - Margilan - Tashkent
We'll have breakfast at the hotel and depart for Rishtan, a town known for its ceramic industry. Here, a master craftsman will welcome us into his home to show us some of his works, which have been exhibited in multiple World Fairs. In addition, you'll enjoy a pottery workshop where you'll be able to make your own piece!
The next stop of the day will be in Margilan, where we'll visit the madrasa of Said Akhmad-Khoja, which nowadays is used as a silk factory. We'll then stroll through a traditional market and enter the Yodgorlik silk factory, where we'll see how this fiber is treated and used to make luxurious, high-quality fabrics. On Thursdays and Sundays, we'll be able to visit the Kumtapa Bazaar, the largest market in the Fergana Valley. In the afternoon, we'll take a train in Margilan to return to Tashkent, where we'll spend the night.
Day 3: Tashkent
We'll start with breakfast at the hotel and then set out for a guided tour of Tashkent. We'll observe the unique architecture of the Alisher Navoi Theatre and visit the Tashkent Museum of Applied Arts. Next, we'll walk through Amir Temur Square and Independence Square, and stop at the Khast Imam complex to marvel at the architectural marvels. To end the tour, we'll spend some time at the Charsu Bazaar, where you can do some shopping before returning to the hotel.
Day 4: Tashkent- Urgench - Khiva
We'll wake up early to have breakfast, pick up our luggage, and head to the airport, where we'll take an internal flight of about three and a half hours to take us to Urgench. The vehicle will be waiting for us to take us to Khiva, where we'll spend the rest of the day.
Once you have settled in at the hotel, we'll set out on a tour of Khiva, where we'll see the imposing fortress of Itchan-Kala, the madrasas of Amin Khan and Mukhammad Rahimkhan, and the minaret of Kalta. As we tour these sites, we'll learn much more about Uzbek architecture, which is heavily influenced by the Arabic tradition. We'll also pass by the Kunya Arch, the Juma Mosque, the Tash-Khovl Palace, and the Pakhlavan Makhmud Mausoleum, ending with the Islam-Khoja Minaret. The rest of the day, you'll have free time for rest and relaxation at the hotel in Khiva.
Day 5: Khiva - Bukhara
After breakfast at the hotel, the bus will be waiting for us to travel to Bukhara. The trip will take about seven hours, during which you'll have the opportunity to admire the landscapes and Uzbek villages that we'll pass through. Once in Bukhara, we'll check in, and you'll have the rest of the day to do whatever you wish.
Day 6: Bukhara
We'll start our day with breakfast before we begin discovering all that Bukhara has to offer: the Lyabi-Khauz complex, the Magoki-Attori Mosque, the Kalyan Minaret and Mosque, the Miri-Arab Madrasa, the Ulugbeck Madrasa, the Ulugbeck Madrasa, the Abdulazizkhan Madrasa and the Ark Fortress Madrasa.
We'll also pass by the mausoleum of the founder of the Samanid Empire, Ismail Samani, the Bolo Hauz Mosque, the Chor-Minor Madrasah, and the imposing fortress of the Arq of Bukhara. In the evening, we'll attend a folk music show and finally return to the hotel.
Day 7: Bukhara - Nurota - Kyzyl-Kum
After breakfast, we'll leave Bukhara in the direction of Nurota, a journey that will take about four hours. During the journey, we'll see some famous petroglyphs and stop to visit the 4th-century ruins of Chashma.
Did you know that Nurota was founded by Alexander the Great? Upon arrival, we'll tour this ancient city, where we'll see the Juma and Panjvaqta mosques. Afterwards, we'll leave Nurota behind and move to a yurt camp in the Kyzyl-Kum desert, where we'll spend the night. Before going to sleep, we'll enjoy a delicious dinner and attend another folk music show.
Day 8: Kyzyl-Kum - Samarkand
We'll have breakfast at the yurt camp, and you'll have the morning free to explore Kyzyl-Kum on foot or by camel. After lunch, we'll hop in the vehicle and head over to Samarkand. We'll arrive there in the evening, so we'll go directly to the hotel where we'll stay overnight.
Day 9: Samarkand - Tashkent
The morning of the last day will be spent exploring Samarkand, the second-largest city in Uzbekistan. We'll visit the famous Registan Square and its three madrasas from the 15th and 17th centuries, the Zindah necropolis, and the Bibi Khanum mosque. Did you know that it's the largest mosque in Central Asia?
We'll also visit the Konigil factory specializes in paper making. After lunch, you'll have free time to buy some souvenirs to take home from this unforgettable 9-day trip around Uzbekistan. In the afternoon, we'll meet again at the hotel to hop back in the vehicle, which will take us to the train station. We'll board the train departing at 6 pm and arriving in Tashkent at 8:10 pm, and once there, we'll take you to the airport for your return flight. Bon voyage!
