At the designated time, we'll meet at the entrance of the Tarragona Cathedral to begin our guided tour of this magnificent site. In Roman times, it was the Temple of Augustus, later transformed into a Visigothic religious center, and centuries after that, a mosque. Why was this location so significant to so many civilizations? You'll uncover the fascinating reasons during our tour!
During the tour, we’ll walk through the cathedral’s central nave, featuring a Romanesque floor plan. We’ll admire the stunning Gothic rose window on the main façade, the Renaissance organ, and the intricate Gothic altarpiece at the main altar—each more impressive than the last.
Next, we’ll visit the largest Romanesque cloister in Catalonia, where you’ll be immersed in a uniquely historic atmosphere. Afterward, we’ll explore the halls of the Diocesan Museum, showcasing an impressive collection of medieval and modern art, offering a captivating journey through time. We’ll also marvel at the perimeter wall of the Tarraco imperial enclosure, a true masterpiece of Roman architecture.
After approximately 1.5 hours, we’ll conclude this guided tour, leaving you with a deep understanding of the fascinating 2,000-year history of the Tarragona Cathedral.
