On this excursion to the Huayllay National Sanctuary, you'll traverse through one of Peru's most significant and protected nature reserves. Visit the famous stone forest!

Description

Meet us at the Plaza de Armas in Tarma and we'll set off on our day trip to the Huayllay National Sanctuary, a protected area in the heart of the Bombon Plateau.

Our journey will take us through the breathtaking landscapes of the Bombon Plateau, where we'll encounter flower crops, the expansive Pampas of Junin, and the Historical Sanctuary of Chacamarca. This sanctuary stands as a tribute to the valiant heroes who sacrificed their lives in the Battle of Junin, a pivotal event during Peru's struggle for independence.

As we continue, and once we've passed through the towns of Junín, Parí, or San Juan de Ondores, we'll reach the Chinchaycocha Lake. Ranking as the second-largest lake in Peru, here we'll pause at a designated viewpoint to soak in the breathtaking vistas of this pristine lake before embarking on the next leg of our excursion to the Huayllay National Sanctuary.

A major highlight of this destination is the Huayllay Stone Forest, with over 480 distinct rock formations of remarkable uniqueness. During our visit, we'll venture through this extraordinary area, pointing out resemblances some formations bear to animals or even human figures.

The last stop on our day trip will be at the small village of Carhuamayo to see the Maca Monument. After here, we'll make our way back to Tarma.

We'll bring our exhilarating day trip to an end, 13 hours after pickup, bringing you back to the meeting point.
