What's in store:
Our adventure begins after meeting at Tarma's Plaza de Armas at the scheduled time, commencing our excursion to Villa Rica and the El Oconal Lagoon. Let's get started!
We'll traverse the province of Oxapampa, an incredibly diverse region historically inhabited by three cultures—the Campas, the Amueshas, and the Cashibos. Along the way, we'll share fascinating insights into the rich heritage of these indigenous communities.
Our first destination of the day is Villa Rica, renowned for being one of Peru's coffee capitals. A guided tour of Villa Rica will lead us to explore its iconic landmarks, such as the charming wooden chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary and the beautiful Plaza de Armas.
Before departing Villa Rica, we'll pay a visit to a local coffee farm. Here, you'll have the opportunity to delve into the secrets of Peru's prized coffee production, from cultivation to processing and eventual consumption.
Next, our journey takes us to the El Oconal Lagoon, a pristine wetland area teeming with diverse plant and wildlife. Prepare to be captivated by the breathtaking landscapes and the remarkable biodiversity of this expansive water reservoir—the perfect chance to take stunning photos. Additionally, we'll embark on a traditional boat ride across the tranquil waters of El Oconal.
To round off our lagoon experience, we'll unwind with a soothing ichthyotherapy session. Later, as we make our way back to Tarma, we'll encounter the El León waterfall.
Finally, after approximately 14 hours of adventure, we'll conclude our excursion back at the starting point.
