Join us on an incredible adventure to the Santa Elena Reserve on our day trip from Tarapoto. We'll also take a canoe ride through the wetlands of the Alto Mayo and visit the Caves of Palestine.
Santa Elena & Caves of Palestine Day Trip
Having picked you up from your hotel in Tarapoto bright and early, we'll board our minibus and set off on our day trip to the Santa Elena Reserve.
After a 2-hour 30-minute drive, we'll come to the town of Rioja. We'll have a typical breakfast here accompanied by an infusion or a coffee. What better way to start the day?
Feeling ready for the day, we'll head to the Alto Mayo wetlands where our canoes will be waiting for us. We'll hop into the canoes and start rowing down the Romero River for 2 hours. While we row, we'll admire the different wildlife species that live in this area, such as monkeys, sloths, otters and reptiles.
We'll then return to the mainland and travel to Nueva Cajamarca to visit the Caves of Palestine. When we get there, we'll stroll through the underground paths of these caverns, which are full of peculiar shapes that have been formed over the years. As we explore the caves, the guide will tell us lots of fascinating facts about this place.
Once we've left the Caves of Palestine, we'll head to a local restaurant to have a meal including a main course and a drink.
Finally, we'll return to your hotel in Tarapoto and finish our day trip after a total of around 12 hours.
