Lamas Day Trip
Lamas Day Trip
At the scheduled time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Tarapoto and set off to Lamas in our minibus. The journey will take around 30 minutes.
When we get to Lamas, we'll hop off the bus and visit the Plaza de Armas. While admiring the golden sculptures we'll discuss the fascinating history of this town, which was conquered twice. Its first settlers were fleeing from the Incas... We'll learn more about the history of this area's Indigenous communities and their popular festivals during our visit to the Chanka Museum.
After a 30-minute tour of the museum, we'll walk to one of the town's most iconic tourist attractions - Lamas Castle. We'll explore its halls and towers, which offer incredible panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. You may be surprised to find a medieval-style fortress in a town nestled in the Peruvian jungle, but Lamas is a town full of contrasts. Although its architectural style suggests otherwise, we'll talk about how this fortress was built fairly recently.
Next, we'll visit the Wayku community of Lamas and see their unique houses without windows, which we'll discuss during our visit.
Our day trip will then come to an end as we return to the starting point in Tarapoto three hours after departure.
