At the indicated time, we'll meet at Porta Messina to kick off this fascinating free tour of Taormina, the pearl of the Ionian Sea. Throughout this guided tour, we'll delve into the city's history and explore its most prominent monuments!
As we navigate Taormina, we'll have the opportunity to appreciate a diverse range of architectural styles that reflect the various civilizations that have left their imprints on these lands. From the Greeks and Romans to the Arabs, Normans, Angevins, and more, each culture has contributed to the rich tapestry of this Sicilian coastal town.
Our itinerary will take us to explore the exterior of the Odeon Theater, commissioned by Caesar Augustus Ottaviano in the 2nd century. We'll also marvel at ancient medieval residences such as the Corvaja Palace, step inside the Church of Santa Catalina, and stroll through IX April Square.
And, of course, we can't miss the renowned Taormina Cathedral and its significant Greek theater, which has brought fame to this town since its construction in the 3rd century B.C.
After about an hour and a half of immersive sightseeing, we'll conclude our free tour of Taormina, bidding farewell near Porta Catania.
