Tamtoc and the Birth of Tanchipa
We'll reach the village of Tamuin to explore the Tamtoc archaeological site—a former settlement of the Huastecan culture. The site showcases various funerary structures, sculptures, stelae, and murals, providing a vivid portrayal of the significant role the female figure played in this cultural hub.
Here, we'll visit the birthplace of the Tanchipa River to admire the surrounding grottoes from where the crystalline waters emerge. A genuine paradise!
Minas Viejas + Micos Waterfalls
This day trip takes us to the Mina Viejas waterfalls, tucked away on the outskirts of El Naranjo. These two waterfalls cascade down from 50 meters (164 feet) into a natural pool below that stands out thanks to its brilliant turquoise waters. Feel free to dive in head-first for a refreshing dip while we're here!
Then, we'll go to Micos, part of the 7 waterfalls taller than 1 kilometer (0.6 miles). At this natural site, for those daring enough, you can try waterfall jumping for an adrenaline rush!
Salto + Meco Waterfalls
This aquatic experience starts along the wells of the Salto waterfall, a towering cascade falling from an impressive 70 meters (229 feet) high. Take a refreshing deep in these tranquil waters!
Following this visit, we'll head to the Meco lookout point, a magical place with a privileged view of the beginning of the 30-meter (98-foot) high waterfall. Then, we'll hop in a canoe and head to the waterfall itself. If you're feeling adventurous, you can jump from the rocks into the serene waters for an exciting swim.
Tamasopo and Puente de Dios
With this option, we'll arrive at the outskirts of Tamasopo to uncover the natural area near Puente de Dios, a paradisical grotto surrounded by waterfalls and tropical jungle. We'll meander around the grotto in search of golden rays of sunlight piercing through any small nook or cranny, lending the space a magical natural landscape.
Soon after, we'll head to the Tamasopo waterfalls, and if you're feeling really daring, you can try your hand at vine-swinging for an authentic experience, perfectly landing in the pristine waters below.
Xilitla and Sótano de las Golondrinas
This tour will take us to Xilitla, a Magical Village hidden within the Edward James Surrealist Garden. We'll stroll through the area, full of magic, as we observe structures made up of giant flowers, spiral staircases, Gothic arches, and unfinished buildings hidden among the jungle trees.
Then, we'll return to Xilitla to admire the colonial architecture and enjoy some good old people-watching in the main square. Next, we'll head to Golondrinas Basement, a 512-meter (1,679-foot) deep karst cave.
Mantetzulel Caves and Huichihuayan Springs
Caving aficionados are sure to enjoy this day trip to the Mantetzulel Caves, which are covered by trees and medicinal plants. Our initial destination is the Holy Spirit Grotto, where we'll marvel at the exquisite stalactites and stalagmites coming from the rock walls and floors. Following that, we'll venture into the Luz del Sol Cave, which harbors a unique cavity where sunrays delicately filter through. Our journey will conclude at El Aguacatillo Cave.
But that's not all! We'll also enter the cave where the Huichihuayan River begins and enjoy a refreshing swim.
