Ilo Day Trip
Ilo Day Trip
Once we've picked you up from your hotel in Tacna at 8 am, we'll set off on our day trip to Ilo.
On the way there, we'll pass through the Ite Wetlands and look out at views of the lagoons where almost 150 species of birds, such as flamingos, ducks and seagulls, coexist.
Before we get to the city centre, we'll stop at the Chiribayo Museum in Ilo to learn all about this pre-Columbian civilisation that lived in the central-southern Andes between the 10th and 15th centuries. We'll see mummies, textile samples and ceramic objects during our visit to the exhibition.
Next, we'll head into the historic centre of Ilo and take a tour of the Plaza de Armas and the Church of San Jerónimo, which was built in 1871 upon the rock.
The tour will then take us to the iconic Port of Ilo, which holds great commercial and historic significance. It was here that Chilean troops landed during the War of the Pacific.
We'll walk along the Venus Bridge towards the José Gálvez roundabout, an iconic symbol of Ilo and a great place to admire views of the coastline.
Afterwards, we'll stroll along the boardwalk and take a break so you can have lunch at your leisure in one of the restaurants. Once you've had something to eat, we'll reconvene and walk along Ilo's beautiful beaches, such as Puerto Inglés and Pozo de Lizas.
It'll then be time to head back to Tacna and drop you off at your hotel, where we'll arrive at 5 pm.
