Tour of Neapolis
Tour of Neapolis
At the appointed time we'll meet at the entrance of the Neapolis Archaeological Park and begin a guided tour of one of the most important monuments of ancient Greek and Roman Syracuse. Are you ready to travel back in time?
We'll enter the archaeological site and begin our walk through the ruins of the most important Greek colony in the West. As we explore Neapolis, we'll unveil the history of the place where Archimedes was born and where the likes of Plato and Cicero passed through.
During our guided tour of Neapolis, we'll also explore the Latomia of Paradise, a stone quarry where the famous Ear of Dionysus is located. Did you know that it was used as a prison for his enemies? In addition to enjoying the fascinating views, you'll be able to check its excellent acoustics. Test out your singing voice!
Afterwards, we'll approach the massive Greek Theater, the most important part of the whole area, since it's considered one of the largest theaters in the world. At the top is the nymphaeum fountain, where we'll get a breathtaking view of the port of Syracuse.
Finally, we'll visit the Roman Amphitheater, built after the conquest of the town for gladiator fights.
The tour of the Neapolis Archaeological Park will finish back at the starting point after an hour and a half of walking.
