On this private tour of Ortigia, we'll learn about the origins of the Sicilian city of Syracuse and visit iconic sites. Let's go!

Ortigia Private Tour

At the appointed time we'll meet at the Umbertino Bridge, which connects the centre of Syracuse with the island of Ortigia, where the city was founded in 734 BC.

On this walk, we'll enter the fortified area and discover the origins of Syracuse. Once there, we'll see its most outstanding monuments, such as the Temple of Apollo, the oldest Doric sanctuary in Sicily. We'll pass by Piazza Archimede, dedicated to the great mathematician born in Syracuse, and the fountain of Diana.

As we walk through the streets of Ortigia, we'll reach Piazza Minerva and see the Cathedral of Syracuse, built on the remains of the ancient Temple of Athens.

We'll stop in front of its façade, a mixture of baroque and rococo styles, and we'll continue admiring other buildings close by such as the Palazzo del Vermexio, seat of the Town Hall, the Palazzo Beneventano and the Santa Lucia alla Badia Church, which houses a work by Caravaggio.

We'll continue the tour to the promenade, known as the Alfeo, and we'll see the Arethusa fountain and the silhouette of the Castello Maniace

The tour will end at this point, 2 hours after the start of the tour.
