Spitzkoppe Day Trip
Spitzkoppe Day Trip
At the arranged time we'll pick you up from your hotel in Swakopmund and set off on our adventure to a 700 million-year-old rock formation.
Before heading into the desert we'll make a stop in the city of Swakopmund to show you the Martin Luther locomotive, which is over 100 years old and was the first form of mechanical transport in Namibia. Our guide will explain a little more about the history of the train, as well as the city and Namibia in general.
Then we'll embark on our journey through the Namib Desert, admiring the magical Namibian landscape where the reddish tones of the mountain blend with the golden desert sand. Soon we'll approach the spectacular Spitzkoppe Mountain standing tall in the middle of the desert at 1,728 metres above sea level. It is sometimes referred to as the Matterhorn of Namibia. These granite rock formations served as a refuge for the Bushmen or Sans thousands of years ago, who left behind some fascinating paintings.
During the excursion, we'll also get the chance to prepare a traditional meal, including typical Namibian dishes such as fat cookies, etitis, or mopane worms, so that you can regain your strength and continue exploring Spitzkoppe. You can head the famous stone arch and get an impressive picture!
At the end of the trip we'll head back to Swakopmund and drop you off at your hotel.
