Cape Cross Seal Reserve Day Trip
Cape Cross Seal Reserve Day Trip
We'll come at pick you up from your accommodation in Swakopmund at the agreed time, and then our day trip to the Cape Cross Seal Colony will get started.
As we make our journey north, we'll make a few stops to admire the wonderful Namibian scenery. We'll also make a stop at Henties Bay, in the Free Republic of Wlotzka’s Baken, a small holiday settlement with wooden bungalows and a wonderful sense of calm.
Afterwards, we'll continue our trip to our destination: Cape Cross. The name of this city is due to the stone cross placed by explorer Diego Cao, the first European to set foot on Namibia in 1486, in honour of King John I of Portugal.
Once we get to Cape Cross, you'll be able to replenish your energy with a delicious lunch including typical Namibian dishes such as fat cookies, etitis, chicken and mopane worms. This is a real treat for your tastebuds!
After lunch, we'll head to the Cape Cross Seal Reserve, where you'll be able to see the more than 200,000 animals that inhabit this area. You'll be able to walk over a wooden walkway to get a better look at these incredible creatures; in fact, you'll only be a couple of inches away from them!
You're sure to be impressed by the sheer number of seals. Did you know that this is one of the world's largest colonies of Cape fur seals? You'll be able to see them sleep, flight, play and even eat.
If you're lucky, and you take these trip in November or December, you might see seal pups, as this is when Cape fur seals tend to give birth.
We recommend that you take a scarf or shawl to cover your nose. Whilst seeing so many seals in one place is a truly amazing sight, the smell can be somewhat overwhelming.
Finally, the tour will come to an end and we'll return to Swakopmund, dropping you back at your hotel at around 5 pm.
