Tour of Sucre's Churches
Tour of Sucre's Churches
At the selected time, we'll pick you up from your hotel to begin this tour of the churches of Sucre, a city with a very important religious architectural heritage. Did you know that the city has a church on every block?
The tour will start at the Recoleta Monastery, located in the neighborhood of the same name. This complex, consisting of a church and a museum, was founded by Franciscan monks in 1601 and is a haven of peace and solemnity.
We'll walk through its beautiful cloisters and, while in one we'll find an ancient tree, in another we'll be surprised by its views of the Churuquella hill. We'll enter the church of the convent, where we'll admire a choir carved in wood and a collection of paintings from the colonial and republican periods.
The next stop will be at the convent of Santa Clara, a truly mystical place. Here we'll observe paintings by famous Bolivian painters, wooden sculptures, and even a 17th-century organ that is only used in important ceremonies.
Then, we'll visit the convent of San Felipe Neri, an example of wealth and ostentation in the flourishing colonial society. From its majestic terraces decorated with towers and tiled domes, we'll enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the numerous bell towers that decorate the skyline of Sucre.
After a 4-hour tour of Sucre's churches, we'll take you back to the hotel.
