Potosí Day Trip
Potosí Day Trip
It was Miguel de Cervantes who first spoke about this city of Bolivia in one of his novels and coined the term "vale un potosí". In fact, he spoke about the luxurious qualities and wealth that derived from this incredible place.
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Sucre and head to Potosí to discover the rich history and heritage it holds. During our trip, we'll be able to observe the magnificent architecture of Sucre, such as the bridge of Sucre which hovers over the Pilcomayo River and its towers which stand as a medieval fortress.
Once we've arrived in Potosí, we'll meet up with our guide and explore this imperial town, once considered the nucleus of the silver trade during the 16th and 17th centuries. The silver minerals extracted from Cerro Rico, close to the city, made it one of the most prosperous cities in the world for many decades.
The preserved buildings and monuments represent the great legacy of this golden age: the Cathedral of Potosí, a Baroque-style building that holds relics of gold and silver, the Santa Teresa Museum and the Casa de la Moneda (Mint). The latter was founded in the 18th century by Francisco de Toledo, Viceroy of Peru, and represents the great economic importance of Potosí and its presence in history.
During the visit, we'll discover the legends of the great silver capital as we stroll through its historic streets. Afterwards, we'll leave you free time for lunch and then we'll reconvene to return to Sucre. We'll drop you back off at your hotel after 10 hours of excursion.
