Cordillera de los Frailes Hiking Tour
At 8:30 am we'll pick you up at your hotel and take you to the town of Chataquila, located 30 kilometers from the center of Sucre. Once there, we'll begin a two-hour hike through the Cordillera de los Frailes, a group of mountains that divides the departments of Chuquisaca and Potosi.
During the route, we'll make several stops to admire the wonders hidden in this mountain range. The first will be to see the cave paintings of Inka Mach'ay, painted in red and white some 2,500 years ago. There are some that represent human and geometric figures, but the meaning of the rest is a mystery. Next we'll find the cave of Pumamachay, which also houses some cave paintings, although this time in black.
As we make our way through the Cordillera de los Frailes, we'll also enjoy incredible views of the Chataquila mountain range. Once we've worked up an appetite, we'll stop for a picnic lunch before continuing on to one of the local villages, where the bus will be waiting for us.
On a stop at the Tazón viewpoint, we will also take in beautiful panoramic views of the Maragua Crater and its striking colors. Finally, we will leave you at your hotel in Sucre at 2:30 pm.
