Our guide, David, has been very involved in explaining to us, both regarding the guided tour, which has been super enjoyable, and in helping us with any questions we had. Thanks a lot

Description

We'll meet at the designated time in front of the Strasbourg Cathedral, where we'll kick off this free tour of the German and European quarters in Strasbourg. Did you know that after World War II, the city became one of the focal points of Franco-German reconciliation?

Our tour will begin along the Rue du Dome, one of the most important streets in the city, lined with palaces and noteworthy buildings such as the Palais Rohan. This palace suffered serious damage caused by British and American bombs during World War II, but today we can see it completely restored.

The next stop will be at Rue des Juifs, where there are a series of protected historical monuments. There we'll also notice a plaque that commemorates the Jewish community's presence here throughout history.

We'll pass by historical places such as the Place Broglie and the German Imperial Quarter of Neustadt. Did you know that it's the extension of the city of Strasbourg put in place by the German authorities during the annexation of Alsace-Lorraine? There we can see how the architecture of the Second Reich is preserved intact in the city, the Germany that was not destroyed.

Afterwards, we'll hop on the streetcar at the Place de la République to go to the European Quarter, a symbol of peace and reconciliation after so many disputes. There we'll see the exterior of the Palace of Human Rights, which was inaugurated in 1995 and houses the European Court of Human Rights.

Then we'll approach the exterior of the European Parliament, the most significant transnational parliament in the world, which hosts groundbreaking debates and has been the setting of decisive historic votes.

After two hours of sightseeing, our free tour will come to an end and we'll bid farewell in front the beautiful parliament building.
