Sigtuna Day Trip
Description
Discover the historical charm of Sigtuna, Sweden's oldest town, nestled within a beautifully preserved Viking-era street network decorated with 18th-century traditional houses. Dive into the town's rich Viking and Medieval history at the Sigtuna Museum, once the epicenter of Sweden's royalty and religion.
Often considered "where Sweden begins" our guide will take us on a route to see romantic church ruins and intriguing Viking runestones. We'll continue on to wander along the serene shores of Lake Mälaren, where these runestones unveil captivating Viking stories, and the church ruins offer insights into post-Viking Christian life.
Along our route, we'll also visit the 17th-century Venngarn Palace, the luxurious residence of Magnus Gabriel De la Gardie, Sweden's wealthiest and most influential nobleman of his time. Our guide will take us on a deep dive into history within the palace's well-preserved Baroque architecture, adorned with original 17th-century paintings. Gain insights into the lives of both Swedish nobility and farmers during the 18th and 19th centuries.
Nearby to Wenngarn Palace, we'll also explore Viby, a farm frozen in time since the 1700s—an unusual sight in Sweden, thanks to siificant agricultural reforms in the 18th and 19th centuries. Together we'll walk through this idyllic setting, featuring iconic red countryside buildings, and learn about Swedish life from two to three centuries ago.
After 5 hours of rich history, we'll bring the tour to a close, dropping you off at your hotel.
