Get to know the private residence of the kings of Sweden with this boat excursion to Drottningholm Palace. You'll be able to walk through its stately rooms and discover its majestic garden.
Drottningholm Palace Excursion
Setting sail from Stockholm's Klara Mälarstrand pier, we'll begin a pleasant boat ride on Lake Mälaren. After an hour of sailing, we'll reach the island of Lovön, where the Royal Domain of Drottningholm is located.
Drottningholm Palace was built in the 16th century and served as the royal family's summer residence until the 19th century. Since the mid-20th century, it has been the private residence of the monarch, although its gardens and much of its interior are open to the public.
After getting your ticket to the palace grounds, you can stroll through its extensive gardens. The oldest part is a Baroque garden with beautiful avenues of trees. In the adjoining English garden, you'll discover numerous marble statues hidden among the vegetation.
Since its construction, many kings have altered the interior of Drottningholm Palace to suit their tastes. As you explore the impressive rooms at your leisure, you'll learn about the private quarters of some of them and the history of a residence inspired by the Château de Versailles.
On the grounds of Drottningholm, you can also visit the Chinese Pavilion, a small but striking Chinese-inspired palace built in the 18th century, and the Drottningholm Theatre. This opera house retains its original decor and stage machinery and hosts an annual summer classical music festival.
