Stirling Old Town Tour
We'll meet at 11 am outside the VisitScotland iCentre in Stirling ready to start our tour of the old town.
Our first stop will be at the famous Stirling Castle, one of the most important fortresses in Scotland both historically and architecturally. Many Scottish kings and queens have lived within its walls and fought to defend Scotland, including Mary Queen of Scots - the first woman to rule the country.
Also on the tour we'll visit the Holy Rude Church. This church is full of history as it was where King James VI, son of Mary Stuart, was crowned King of Scotts in 1567. We'll wander over to the Stirling Cemetery where we'll discover even more illustrious characters of the city's past and how they have formed the city that exists today.
Then it'll be time to visit the Stirling Old Town Jail. In 1847 The victorian old Tolbooth Jail became too overcrowded and was rated as the worst prison in Britain. The prison was reformed into Stirling Old Town Jail, the building has undergone reforms and many restorations over the years. Now you can enter its walls to learn what it was really like to have been locked up in its cells as a prisoner. We'll explore many other top sites in Stirling but you'll have to come along if you want to learn all about this fascinating city.
Finally after one and a half hours of exploring we'll end the tour.
