Join us on a tour of Barbados' second largest city, called Little Bristol, on this guided tour of Speightstown. Let's go!

Description

At the time indicated, we'll start our guided tour of Speightstown at 1B Highway Street. From here, we'll start our route around the city's picturesque streets, located on the northwest coast of Barbados.

During this walking tour, we'll learn about its link with England. It still has remnants from British colonial times. We'll tell you about the 17th-century architecture that characterises this town in Barbados.

Then, we'll explore places like Queen Street, the main road in the city where we'll see many old buildings, shops, restaurants and art galleries. Here, we'll admire traditional Barbados constructions, with wooden and coral stone housesforged iron balconies and red-tiled roofs. We'll also pass by Arlington House Museum, which has interactive exhibitions explaining Speightstown's history and culture.

Another street we'll explore will be Church Street, which connects with the main road and is where we'll find St. Peter's Church, one of the oldest in Barbados. It was built in 1837 in Gothic style with an octagonal tower and organ. In the cemetery, we'll see the tombs of important people, such as Admiral Lord Nelson and the writer George Lamming.

Additionally, we'll go down Orange Street, which offers spectacular views of the Caribbean Sea and Speightstown Pier. This coastal pass is famous for its palm trees and sculptures. Here, we'll admire the famous mural of the city, a piece of art that covers an entire wall and portrays a scene of daily life.

Finally, we'll say our goodbyes here after a 2-hour walking tour.

Tour of Speightstown + Museum

If you want an even more complete experience, you can select the option that includes a visit to Arlington House Museum. This educational exhibition has displays on three floors of a restored 18th-century building belonging to a sugar plantation. Here, we'll learn about what life was like in this city's early years, as well as its history and culture.

Tour of Speightstown + Museum and Dinner

If you choose this option, as well as a guided tour of Speightstown, you'll also have access to the Arlington House Museum, but only the first floor. Here, we'll learn about how the city changed between the 17th and 20th centuries through old photographs and videos. In addition, there's a shop upstairs to buy books, handmade gifts, and other traditional products.

We'll end the guided tour with a delicious meal at Rum Shack, a restaurant with beautiful views of the sunset. The menu includes a buffet of traditional dishes from Barbados and a non-alcoholic drink.
