Day Trip to Kyustendil
Day Trip Details
We'll meet at St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral at the designated time. Once we're ready, we'll begin our day trip to Kyustendil, one of the oldest towns in Bulgaria. Let's go!
After an approximately 1.5-hour journey, we'll reach our destination. Once we're here, we'll visit the Old Sequoia Trees, a park with trees that are 130 years old. As we stroll through this beautiful site, we'll tell you the story of how these trees came to grow in this part of the country.
Our next stop will be at Hisarlaka Fortress, which dates back to the 4th century and was used for the first and second kingdoms of Bulgaria. Given its location on top of a hill, you'll enjoy the beautiful scenic views. If you want, you can grab a coffee at a café in the area.
Afterward, we'll visit the Roman thermal baths of Kyustendil, which have over 70 thermal fountains at a temperature of 73° and are believed to form part of a complex known as "asclepion." These thermals are located in the vicinity of the Ahmed Bey Mosque, in the heart of the town.
From here, we'll explore the old town to admire the historic buildings that surround it and discover an art gallery, where we'll dive into the country's history through paintings dating back to the beginning of the 20th century. After, you'll have some free time to grab a bite to eat and enjoy the traditional cuisine.
After lunch, we'll start our journey back to the starting point, where we'll conclude this 8.5-hour day trip. Until next time!
