Sistelo Hiking Trail
When booking, you can choose between two options. For both, we'll meet at Largo Visc do Rio Vez in Sistelo at the time indicated. They also last between 2 and 3 hours with an English speaking guide and a tasting of local products at the end.
Sistelo Hiking
First we'll take a guided tour through the streets of Sistelo to discover the treasures of the Portuguese Tibet, considered to be one of the seven wonders of the country.
Our next stop will be the Viscount of Sistelo's Castle, where we'll reveal the relationship it has with the Galician Pazos. We'll also cross the Roman bridge over the River Vez, and discover the Horreos, traditional granaries from the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula. After this, we'll go into the surrounding paths to see the terraces, typical forms of cultivation in the region.
Afterwards, we'll go up the hillside to a mountain refuge and find out about the life of the shepherds in the area.
Sistelo Walkways Hiking
We'll set off for Valdevez Arches, a few minutes away by car. Once there, we'll stop at the Vilela medieval bridge, which dates back to the 13th century. Then the hiking trail through the Sistelo valleys wooden walkways will begin.
The path will lead us past the Vez river to enjoy beautiful waterfalls and a variety of vegetation including strawberry trees, beeches, birches and oaks. It's also likely that we will come across some otters or salamanders. The guide will tell us about the importance of agriculture linked to neighbouring Galicia.
