Description

Then, we'll walk to the Temple of Yueh Hai Ching, the oldest Chinese sanctuary in Singapore, founded in 1819. Here, you can admire its incredible carvings and mask, as well as learn about some of the beliefs and rituals of the first Chinese immigrants.
Our route will continue to Pekin Street, where we'll find the patio of an old Chinese boys school, and pass by the Fuk Tak Chi Museum, which used to be a temple dedicated to the God of Prosperity.
Next, we'll visit Thian Hock Keng, the most important Hokkien temple in the country. It was built with materials brought from China. Did you know that sailors arriving in the city used to come here to thank the Goddess of the sea for protecting them on their voyages? Here, you can see a relic of Buddha's tooth and a gift from the Qing emperor.
After enjoying lunch at one of Singapore's oldest noodle houses, we'll go in search of the traditional trades of Chinatown, visiting a tea shop, a pastry shop and an ointment store. You'll also see some of the murals by the artist Yip Yew Chong, depicting scenes of daily life in the old days.
