Polonnaruwa & Pidurangala Excursion
Polonnaruwa & Pidurangala Excursion
After picking you up at your hotel in Sigiriya at 10 am, we'll hit the road to our first destination of the day: Polonnaruwa.
About an hour and a quarter later, we'll arrive at the ruins of this ancient kingdom founded by King Vijayabahu in 1070. Once there, we'll trade the minibus for bicycles to explore this ancient city in a fun comfortable and way.
We'll then move to the outskirts of Polonnaruwa to leave the bikes for a ride on an ox-drawn cart. Did you know that this is still a typical means of transport in some Sri Lankan villages? Next, we'll board a boat for a ride on Bendiwewa Lake to get a new perspective of the area.
Finally, we'll hop on a tuk tuk to the residence of a local farmer who will explain the traditional lifestyle in the countryside.
After this stop, we'll get back on the minibus and drive to the ancient monastery of Pidurangala to admire the ruins of this beautiful place surrounded by nature. If you're in good physical shape, you can also climb to the top of the Pidurangala Rock to get the best views of Sigiriya. We assure you that the effort is well worth it!
Finally, we'll take you back to your hotel in Sigiriya, where we'll arrive at 2 pm.
