On this private tour of Shirakawa-gō, you'll have the opportunity to visit this charming village declared a World Heritage Site with a guide just for you.

Tour Description

At the indicated time, we'll meet at the Shikarawago bus terminal to begin an 8-hour private tour of this historic village, which is considered one of the main tourist attractions in the Japanese Alps.

Shirakawago was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. In this village, you'll discover what rural Japanese life is like. This charming village, surrounded by mountains and bathed by the Shō River, stands out for its wooden houses in the gassho-zukuri style, which refers to its triangular thatched roofs.

We'll tour Ogimachi, the largest and most important village in the area. We'll visit the Shiroyama viewpoint, which is on the site of the former Ogimachi castle. From here, we'll enjoy a panoramic view of the cosy little houses of the village, before we cross its 107-metre (351-foot) long suspension bridge.

Of course, we can't leave without visiting the Wada family house, one of the most popular and important gasso-zukuri houses in Shirakawago. Inside, we'll explore the traditional structure of this architectural style. As one of the largest houses in Ogimachi, it reflects the wealth and status of the Wada family, who were among the most affluent in the area.

Lastly, we'll stop at a few local restaurants so that you can taste some typical food if you wish, before we end the tour at the meeting point.
