Guided tour of Shirakawa
Description
At the indicated time we'll meet at the Shirakawa bus terminal, where we'll begin our guided tour of this charming village in one of the most beautiful rural areas of Japan!
First, we'll head to a viewpoint with the best panoramic views of Shirakawa. From there, we'll admire the natural beauty of the area as well as the famous gassho-zukuri-style houses, which are characterised by their sloping rooves.
Then, we'll start making our way toward the Nagase house, a traditional Japanese home that is over 250 years old. Did you know that the same family has lived there for all that time? There we'll talk to you about the construction of these houses, their layout, and how the locals live!
Afterward, we'll visit Myozenji Temple, which was founded in the 18th century and is one of the most sacred places in Shirakawa. There, we'll take in the tranquility and explore the different areas of the shrine, such as the main prayer hall and the zen garden.
Finally, we'll head to Shirakawa Hachiman Temple, located on the hilltop. This temple is famous for its impressive architecture and wonderful views.
After two hours, we'll end our guided tour of Shirakawa in the general vicinity of the shrine. See you next time!
