Our meeting point is Exit 4 at Shaanxi South Road subway station at the designated time, marking the beginning of our free tour through the Shanghai French Concession. Let the exploration commence!
First, we'll embark on a stroll down the iconic Middle Huaihai Road, once known as Avenue Joffre, with a glimpse of the historic Cathay Theater façade. We'll delve into the intriguing history of this renowned show business landmark.
Passing by the former Shanghai French Club, where we'll travel 100 years back in time, we'll unveil interesting tales about the structure before venturing into a local neighborhood filled with traditional Shanghai houses and quaint alleys. Do you know what they're called? Let's find out!
Moving on, we'll discover the expansive Culture Square, where the grand former residence of Zhou Enlai, a prominent Chinese prime minister, stands. His house is a fine example of typical French Concession architecture. Adjacent to it lies the Sinan Mansions, filled with stunning architecture.
Finally, we'll conclude the tour by marveling at St. Peter's Church and the former French courthouse before reaching the Tianzifang area, which is famous for its shops. We'll wrap up the tour next to the Dapuqiao subway station after a total of three hours.
