Tour Highlights

We'll meet up at the scheduled time at People's Square subway station exit 3 to embark on our free tour of the centre of Shanghai. Ready to uncover the city's allure? Let's begin!

We'll head from People's Square, where we'll see the great City Hall of Shanghai, to People's Park, where among other sites, we'll spot the unique Marriage Market awaits (open at the weekend and on public holidays. We'll witness this spontaneous gathering where parents showcase their children's virtues through notes displayed in open umbrellas, aiming to find ideal matches for their unmarried offspring.

Next, we'll delve into Shanghai's historic Red Light District, famed across Asia for decades, and pause at East Nanjing Road, the bustling central shopping street. Ever wondered how many stores line this vibrant thoroughfare? Here, we'll take a break to savor some of the most famous local snacks and drinks if you wish.

Continuing on, we'll head to the Shanghai Bund, a picturesque riverside promenade along the Huangpu River, offering views of the avant-garde Shanghai skyline on the opposite bank. If you take the free tour in the afternoon, we'll end the tour at this point after 3.5 hours.

If you book the morning tour, we'll continue the free tour admiring the first cathedral that was built in the French Concession, and traverse the Yuyan Garden, famous for its tea stalls and traditional shops. In this park, we'll conclude the free tour after a total of 4 hours.

Great tour to get an overview of Shanghai highlights. Aubrey, our guide, was very nice and professional, gave us very interesting explanations about Shanghai history and was willing to answer all our questions as well as help us with the lunch choices. Moreover, after the tour she provided a list of recommendations of restaurants and clubs (with authentic chinese food, as I experienced later) and other useful tips to get the most of our visit to the city. I would 100% recommend it

This City Tour is the best way to get to know the city, its history, and its culture through the eyes of a local. If you're just passing through and short on time, there's no better option; if not, it's the perfect introduction to then explore each place of interest in depth. If you're lucky enough to be hosted by Celina, not only will it be a great tour, but she'll make it entertaining, enjoyable, and very dynamic, so much so that she kept my children's attention (14 and 11).
