We'll meet up at the scheduled time at People's Square subway station exit 3 to embark on our free tour of the centre of Shanghai. Ready to uncover the city's allure? Let's begin!
We'll head from People's Square, where we'll see the great City Hall of Shanghai, to People's Park, where among other sites, we'll spot the unique Marriage Market awaits (open at the weekend and on public holidays. We'll witness this spontaneous gathering where parents showcase their children's virtues through notes displayed in open umbrellas, aiming to find ideal matches for their unmarried offspring.
Next, we'll delve into Shanghai's historic Red Light District, famed across Asia for decades, and pause at East Nanjing Road, the bustling central shopping street. Ever wondered how many stores line this vibrant thoroughfare?
Continuing on, we'll head to the Shanghai Bund, a picturesque riverside promenade along the Huangpu River, offering views of the avant-garde Shanghai skyline on the opposite bank. We'll take a break at a local restaurant in this area to savor the famous fried dumplings if you wish. The best in the city!
Finally, we'll admire the first cathedral constructed in the French Concession and traverse the Yuyan Garden, famous for its tea stalls and traditional shops. We'll bid farewell here after a total of four to 4 and a half hours.
