Syracuse & Ortigia Island Day Trip
Having met up at 6:45 am at your chosen meeting point, we'll board a minibus that'll take us to Syracuse. The drive there from Sciacca will take 3 hours 30 minutes.
The first stop of the day will be at the Neapolis Archaeological Park, where you'll have 1 hour 30 minutes of free time. If you like, you can head into this ancient site in Syracuse.
During your visit, you'll explore the origins of the city and travel back to the period of classical antiquity. You'll come across a Greek theatre, which has one of the largest spectator stands of this civilization, a Roman amphitheatre, ruins of ancient altars and temples, and even caves dug into the rocks that were used as prisons.
We'll then return to our vehicle and head to Ortigia, the old town of Syracuse. When we get there, you'll have 4 hours of free time to explore the island at your leisure.
You can stroll around the city where the famous mathematician Archimedes was born and learn about how the city became an important hub in the Mediterranean 2,700 years ago. Due to its rich architectural and historical legacy, this whole area has been declared a World Heritage Site.
As you walk around Ortigia Island you'll see the ruins of the Temple of Apollo from the 6th century BC, the Cathedral, the Fountain of Arethusa, the Maniace Castle and more iconic sites. You can also make the most of the time in Ortigia to sample some of the delicious local gastronomy.
Our day trip will come to an end at 8 pm when we drop you back at the starting point.
