Egnazia Archaeological Park Private Tour
Egnazia Archaeological Park Private Tour
At your chosen time, we'll meet at the entrance of the Egnazia Archaeological Museum. When we've all arrived, we'll set off on our journey through Apulia's fascinating historic and artistic heritage.
During our tour, we'll learn all about the culture of the ancient city of Gnathia, which was inhabited for centuries by the Iapigi, Messapi, Greeks and Romans. We'll see some testimonies to its past, such as the imposing defensive walls and the necropolis with its monumental tombs from the Messapian period.
We'll also follow the traces left by the Romans and observe the remains of the Via Traiana and the civil basilica with the Hall of the Three Graces. In addition, you'll see the remains of the Sacellum of the Oriental gods, the porticoed square, the cryptoporticus and the baths. Among the buildings dedicated to Christian worship, which were built between the 4th and 6th centuries, you can admire the bishop's basilica, the baptistery and the southern basilica, which was originally paved with mosaics.
Next, we'll visit the National Archaeological Museum located near the necropolis. This museum is dedicated to Giuseppe Andreassi, who was an archaeologist and the director of the exhibition centre until 1985. Within the museum's halls, you can take a journey through three centuries worth of history and deepen your knowledge of ancient civilizations by admiring the objects and masterpieces on display. These pieces include the valuable Head of Acts and the mosaic of the Graces.
After 2 hours spent exploring the ancient history of Egnazia, it'll be time to leave the museum and say our goodbyes.
