On our Tybee Island Day Trip, we'll visit some of the iconic sights that bore witness to the American Civil War. We'll also have an unforgettable time on our dolphin watching activity.
Tybee Island Day Trip & Dolphin Watching
Once we've met up at the Savannah Visitor Centre at the scheduled time, we'll board a bus and head to Tybee Island in Chatham County.
When we get there, we'll take a scenic tour of the historic sites in Tybee Island that rose to prominence during the American Civil War. One of the places we'll pass by is Fort Pulaski, where a Civil War battle took place. This monument holds great historic significance due to the innovative use of rifles, which rendered coastal cannons obsolete.
Next, we'll visit the Tybee Island Lighthouse and the Cockspur Island Lighthouse. The latter is of great historical value as it bore witness to the battle of Fort Pulaski. Despite being caught in the line of fire, the lighthouse was largely undamaged.
After our tour of Tybee Island, we'll stop at the Crab Shack. You'll have some free time to have lunch in this famous and striking restaurant, which has a unique atmosphere.
Having fuelled up with some lunch, we'll board a boat and set sail into the sea so we can spot some of Tybee Island's friendly bottlenose dolphins. We'll watch how these intelligent mammals jump and play in the water and gaze at the seabirds that flit in and out of view.
We'll then return to dry land and take our minibus back to the meeting point in Savannah.
