Tunnel of Hope Tour

We'll meet at the indicated time at Zelenih Beretki 30, and then we'll head towards one of the most impressive places in the capital.

The road will take us through the Sniper Avenue, which during the war was one of the most dangerous places in the whole city as any passer-by could be shot. In fact, it was one of the most dangerous streets in the world during that time. Then we'll pass by the Markale market, where one of the biggest massacres took place during the siege of Sarajevo.

Next, we'll see the Presidency building, a key point in the political organization during the war, and the RTV Dom, the television building that kept the population informed during national security emergencies. As we make our way through the city, we'll talk about the design of the communist neighborhoods and how these suburbs reflect Sarajevo's contemporary history.

After learning about these chilling events, we'll arrive at the entrance to the Sarajevo Tunnel, located 5 meters (16 feet) underground and built in 1993 to escape the city during the Bosnian War. This 800-metre-long (2,624 feet) underground passageway, also known as the Tunnel of Hope, built to connect Sarajevo to the world during the siege, was a real lifeline for the city, providing food, medicine and a vital connection to the outside world. Inside the museum, we'll discover the secrets of its construction and hear moving stories from those who lived through this time. Did you know that they had to wear a mask to pass through it due to the lack of ventilation?

Finally, we will return to the meeting point and say goodbye after a 2.5 hour tour.
