At the designated time, we'll meet at the entrance to the Mario de Andrade House to begin this walking tour of Barra Funda, one of the most architecturally revolutionary neighbourhoods in São Paulo.
Barra Funda is a district that has experienced an incredible urban transformation over the past decades. Throughout the tour, we'll see old warehouses that have been converted into art galleries, as well as architectural works by great figures like Oscar Niemeyer and Mario Whately.
Firstly, we'll reveal all the secrets of this neighbourhood which was once home to Mario de Andrade, one of the great icons of Brazilian modernism. Nowadays, his museum house is the perfect spot to learn about São Paulo's past, present, and future.
We'll stroll down the streets of Barra Funda to visit the Latin America Memorial, designed by Niemeyer over 30 years ago, which features different exhibitions about Latin American culture. Additionally, we'll head to Parque da Água Branca, a park inaugurated in 1929 to host agricultural exhibitions.
Another major attraction of Barra Funda is the numerous office buildings with mirrored facades and contemporary architecture university centres that can be spotted along its streets. You'll be blown away by the combination of styles!
To end this tour on a high note, we'll sit at a restaurant where you can grab a traditional Bauru sandwich if you wish, considered intangible heritage in São Paulo.
Lastly, after a total of 3 hours, we'll say our goodbyes at the restaurant's entrance.
