Do you want to get away from the heat of Sao Paulo? Campos do Jordão, known as the 'Brazilian Switzerland' is the perfect place. Fall in love with its wooden houses and alpine scenery!
Description
We'll leave San Paulo at the indicated time and after a 2-hour-long journey we'll delve into the Mantiqueira Mountains to reach our destination: Campos do Jordão, a town located 5577 feet (1,700 metres) above sea level. We bet you weren't expecting to find a town like this in Brazil!
This is the most famous winter destination in the state of Sao Paulo, and in both the winter and summer months it welcomes thousands of visitors who want to escape the heat and hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy the mountain activities on offer here. When we arrive, we'll explore the most emblematic places in the town, such as the Boa Vista Palace, which is currently home to the state governor, and we'll learn about its history.
We'll also discover the Vila Inglesa and Alto Capivari neighbourhoods and the Ducha de Prata, translated as Silver Fall, this is a waterfall in the middle of the town, where we'll also find a craft market. As we explore the beautiful town, full of wooden houses and surrounded by breathtaking alpine scenery, you'll be forgiven for thinking you're in Switzerland and not just a short drive from Sao Paulo!
We'll continue towards the Vila Capivari neighbourhood, where you'll have some free time to explore at your own pace, take a funicular train ride, buy some typical souvenirs and have lunch. Leave some room for dessert though, as on our way back to Sao Paulo we'll make a stop at a chocolate factory where you'll be able to buy local chocolate as well as regional wines, cheese and other sweets.
We'll arrive back in Sao Paulo at between 6 and 7 pm.
