Description
At the time indicated, we'll pick you up from your hotel to start our panoramic tour of São Luís. Did you know that it's the only Brazilian city that was founded by the French? Let's learn about this city's history and culture!
Nowadays, São Luís is known for being the capital of Bumba-Meu-Boi, a traditional Afro-indigenous festival, as well as being the home to important poets and writers. Without a doubt, it's a Brazilian cultural paradise.
We'll start our tour by exploring the São Luís beaches, where we can see the Espigão, built to protect the city from strong waves. We'll also pass by the Jansen lake. Do you know the mysterious legend about the person who this lake is named after? We'll tell you this story as we cross the bridge over the Anil River.
Then, we'll arrive in the urban area of São Luís and here we'll start exploring the historical centre, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997, by foot. Did you know that São Luís has more than 3,000 buildings that date back to the 18th and 19th centuries? You'll be amazed by its buildings decorated with different coloured tiles.
Additionally, we'll visit the São Luís Cathedral, the iconic Rua do Giz and the Palacio dos Leões Palace, the state Government headquarters. Finally, we'll head to the Tulhas Market, a shopping centre that specialises in Maranhão products.
Finally, we'll return to our vehicle and drop you off at your hotel after a 3-hour tour around São Luís.
