Alcântara Day Trip
Description
At the time indicated, we'll pick you up from your hotel in São Luís. From here, we'll start our day trip to Alcântara to learn about this city's history. Let's go!
Firstly, we'll take you to the port, where a speedboat will be waiting to pick us up. For 1.5 hours, we'll sail around the baía de São Marco, a bay in the north Atlantic Ocean in Brazil, and we'll enjoy panoramic views with Alcântara on one side and São Luís on the other.
Upon arrival, we'll get off the boat and enjoy a guided tour around Alcântara, starting with its port. We'll continue along Rua Ladeira do Jacaré, a street that connects the port with the centre of the city, where we can admire the city's typical small houses.
Next, we'll go to Casa do Divino, a building with a facade decorated in Portuguese tiles. Did you know that the Empire of the Feast of the Divine Holy Spirit is celebrated here? We'll talk about this annual celebration which is one of the most important religious events in the region.
Another of the many iconic places in Alcântara that we'll visit is the Capela das Mercês, with beautiful views over the Atlantic. We'll continue discovering the history and importance of religion in this town by visiting the Alcântara Church. Additionally, we'll explore other interesting museums that will allow us to learn about the lives of the locals.
After a 5 or 6-hour tour of the city, we'll drop you back off in São Luís.
