At the designated time, we'll meet at the entrance of the Francisco Carrusca cork factory to start this guided tour of this factory, located on the outskirts of São Brás de Alportel, in the interior area of the Algarve.
Did you know that the cork oak tree is Portugal's national tree? From this tree, cork–an ecological material with many uses–is extracted. Throughout this tour of the factory, you'll learn how this material is selected and how different artisanal and decorative items are made.
Plus, we'll show you the traditional processes to extract and work with cork. You'll also learn about the different objects and tools that are used for its shaping, which depend on the ductility of each variety of cork.
Lastly, we'll conclude this 1-hour tour at the factory's store, where you'll be able to see and purchase different accessories crafted with cork fabric.
