Fort of San Carlos Tour + Boat Ride
At the appointed time, we'll meet on Calle Juan de la Cosa to begin this guided tour of the Fort of San Carlos. Off we go!
First, we'll take a stroll of about 3 kilometers to get to the fort. Why were these types of defensive constructions so important in Santoña? Throughout the tour, we'll tell you all kinds of curiosities about the geographical situation of this Cantabrian town.
When we arrive, we'll head inside the fort to learn about its strategic position and how it was used to prevent access to the bay. Did you know that Santoña was known as the Gibraltar of the North? It also played a decisive role in the history of the 17th and 18th centuries for naval interests.
Afterward, we'll take a one-hour boat ride to the Caballo Lighthouse. Overlooking the town of Santoña and the Bay of Biscay, this lighthouse was built in 1863 and is located in an idyllic setting on a hill. The perfect spot for photos!
After two and a half hours, we'll finish the activity in the port of Santoña.
