Santoña Canning Factory & Marshland Tour
Description
We'll meet up at the designated time near the welcoming mural of Santoña, situated alongside the Avenida de Lons parking lot. Are you prepared to discover one of Cantabria's hidden treasures? Let's embark on this journey!
Before commencing our excursion, we'll delve into the rich history and culture of Santoña, featuring notable figures like Juan de la Cosa, an esteemed sailor and cartographer from Santoña who played a role in the exploration of the Americas. Additionally, we'll uncover the intriguing tales of the Faro del Caballo and Santoña's renowned Carnival, celebrated as a Festival of National Tourist Interest.
Next, we'll make our way to the Natural Park of the Marshes of Santoña, Victoria, and Joyel. This expansive wetland, among the largest in the northern Iberian Peninsula, boasts remarkable environmental significance. As we traverse this natural gem, we'll provide insights into the region's critical role as a habitat for diverse migratory bird species.
Continuing our journey, we'll visit one of Santoña's anchovy canning factories. Which specific factory we visit will vary depending on the season. We'll witness the meticulous process of preparing anchovy fillets, from fish cleaning to their arrangement and packaging in tins for distribution and consumption.
Concluding our guided tour of the factory, we'll relish a tasting session of Santoña's renowned anchovies. Undoubtedly, this exquisite product has grown to be a symbol of Cantabrian cuisine.
Finally, after between 1 hour and 45 minutes and 2 hours, we'll draw our excursion to a close.
