Kahkow Experience Chocolate Workshop
Workshop options
At Kahkow Experience, a center specialized in chocolate in the heart of Santo Domingo's Zona Colonial, you'll have the opportunity to attend different workshops, depending on your preferences. For all options, we'll meet on the emblematic Calle Las Damas at the time of your choice.
Chocolate workshop (20 minutes)
We'll visit Kahkow Experience to learn more about the chocolate industry and its importance in the Dominican Republic. In the different spaces of the factory, we'll learn about the path that cocoa beans follow from their cultivation to their conversion into chocolate.
In the factory, we'll get to see the different machines used to make chocolate, and we'll even be able to demonstrate all this new knowledge by creating our own chocolate bar - the perfect souvenir for this unique experience!
Chocolate workshop + Documentary & cacao farm (30 minutes)
If you choose this workshop, you'll watch a documentary in which several people from the world of chocolate explain the unique properties of this delicacy. We'll also review the history of cacao, from its discovery in North America to its subsequent worldwide export.
Afterward, we'll visit a cacao plantation to learn about the different parts of the typical cacao farms of the Dominican Republic. We'll also get to see the drying and fermentation rooms!
In the Sensory Room at Kahkow Experience, we'll then do a chocolate tasting with the 5 senses, paying special attention to the different percentages of cocoa in each sample. To finish the experience, we'll make our own chocolate bar, applying all the processes learned during the visit.
Chocolate workshop + Cook with the chef (2 hours)
After exploring the origins of chocolate and the importance of this delicacy in the Dominican Republic, we'll visit the different rooms at Kahkow Experience to learn about all the processes involved in production.
We'll also attend a demonstration of the tempering of chocolate in its different forms and learn about the machines used for this purpose. With all this new knowledge, it'll be time to get down to work. Aprons on!
Following the instructions of an expert chef, we'll prepare various dishes made with chocolate. We'll make figures with molds and chocolate baskets, decorate chocolates, prepare a brownie as well as coat fruits. It'll be an unforgettable experience! To put the finishing touch on the workshop, we'll even get to taste the different creations.
