Altos de Chavón Day Trip
Tour Details
After picking you up from your hotel in Santo Domingo, we’ll head to La Romana, where one of the country’s most picturesque places awaits.
After a 45-minute drive, we’ll arrive at Altos de Chavón, a stunning village built on the highlands overlooking the Chavón River and the surrounding green valley. As we walk through the cobblestone streets, you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped back to the 16th century, thanks to the faithful recreation of a typical Italian village. Although it was built in 1976, it was designed to replicate the charm of an old Mediterranean town.
We’ll begin our visit at the Archaeological Museum, where we’ll view indigenous artifacts and learn about the pre-Columbian history of the area. Then, we’ll explore the Museum of Dominican Amber and Larimar, showcasing two of the country’s most valuable and internationally recognized gems.
Next, we’ll head to the viewpoint of Altos de Chavón to enjoy panoramic views of the landscape. We’ll also visit the Church of San Estanislao, the Traveso Fountain, and the impressive Amphitheater, three key spots that reflect the village’s beauty and spirit.
Our final stop will be the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design, a prestigious institution affiliated with renowned art schools in Japan, France, and the United States.
After 5 hours of sightseeing, we’ll conclude the tour and return to your hotel.
