Mexican Independence Towns & Cities Day Trip
Day Trip Details
At the designated time, we'll meet at Calle Independencia, number 64C, close to the Plaza de Armas to begin our exciting day trip. We'll trace the steps of Ignacio Pérez, the famed "Messenger of Independence," who raced to warn the Corregidora that the Spanish had uncovered the insurgent movement in New Spain.
After a 2-hour journey, we'll make our first stop at Dolores Hidalgo, where the Independence Movement began on September 16, 1810. We'll visit the Parish of Nuestra Señora de Los Dolores, the house of Jesuit Miguel Hidalgo, who initiated the struggle for independence, and the main square. Each corner is filled with rich history!
Next, we'll head to Atotonilco, known for the Sanctuary of Atotonilco, a Baroque church with impressive murals that have earned it the nickname "the Sistine Chapel of Mexico." Curious to know why the Virgin of Guadalupe was so important for the insurgents of this town? You'll find out on this tour! After exploring the city, you'll have 1 hour of free time to grab some lunch.
After lunch, our last stop will be at San Miguel de Allende, a town that honors Ignacio Allende, one of the leaders in Mexican independence. We'll visit the museum home of the Allende family and the iconic Gothic church of San Miguel.
Finally, we'll return to the meeting point in Querétaro to conclude this tour of 8 to 10 hours.
