Santiago de los Caballeros is a city rich in culture and history. It served as the first capital of the Dominican Republic and currently holds the position of the second-largest city in the country. Situated in the stunning Cibao Valley, it's fondly referred to as the Heart City. Boasting a bustling modernity, it has something for everyone and preserves a lively and vibrant cultural scene. On this tour, we'll walk around and get to know one of its most culturally rich districts with a local guide.

At 10 am, we'll meet at Parque Colón in Santiago de los Caballeros and head to Los Pepines, arguably the most picturesque part of Santiago. As we stroll through the streets, we'll unveil the cultural importance of this uniquely charming area.

In 2016, the government decided to hire local artists to paint the most deteriorated spaces and improve the aesthetics of the area in hopes of boosting the local economy. Just two years later, Los Pepines became a tourist attraction in Santiago thanks to these stunning murals. Each mural has a riveting story to tell, which the guide will share with you.

As we walk along Alcaldía Street in Santiago, you'll have plenty of time to stop and take totally Instagram-able pictures with the colorful murals, which don't just occupy the walls! We'll admire their artistic and historic significance on a multitude of surfaces.

During the tour, we'll also make several stops in local stores to taste the local cuisine in Santiago. You'll have the opportunity to try chicken, pizza, or vegetable empanadas and fresh fruit juice - yum!

To put the finishing touch to the visit, we'll go check out a representation of Santiago's carnival celebration, where we'll be able to appreciate local music and traditional costumes.

After exploring the murals of Los Pepines, we'll conclude the private tour at 11:30 am.
