On this excursion to La Gran Piedra from Santiago de Cuba, we'll explore a gigantic volcanic rock located in the south of Cuba. The views from the top will leave you speechless!
La Gran Piedra Excursion
We'll pick you up at your accommodation in Santiago de Cuba at 9 am. After an hour-long bus ride, we'll arrive at the Sierra Maestra mountain range, where La Gran Piedra awaits.
The dimensions of this colossal volcanic rock are spectacular. It extends 51 meters (167 feet) long and 30 meters (98 feet) wide, and has a weight of over 60,000 tons! We'll walk up the 452 steps that lead to the top where there's a viewpoint at 1,225 meters (over 4,000 feet) above sea level. The views are breathtaking!
We'll then descend to the base of the mountain and continue the excursion at the coffee plantation of La Isabelica. There we'll take a tour of this hacienda and its museum, which has been declared a World Heritage Site. We'll also learn about the history of French-Haitian emigration, which was a key factor in the development of this type of agriculture in southern Cuba.
Next, we head to the local restaurant Terrazas La Caridad to recharge our batteries with a Creole-style lunch, after which we'll attend a traditional coffee ritual.
Finally, we'll return to your accommodation in Santiago de Cuba, where arrival is scheduled for 3 pm.
