Tour of the City of Culture, Pazo de Rivadulla, & Church of Santa Maria
Tour Details
At the designated time, we'll meet at Galicia Square to begin this tour where we'll explore 3 prominent architectural sites in the surrounding area of Santiago de Compostela.
We'll first make our way to the Pazo de Santa Cruz de Rivadulla. At this traditional manor house, whose origins date back to at least the 15th century, we'll visit its beautiful gardens. During the tour, we'll admire a wide variety of botanical species such as olive trees, magnolias, oaks, and ferns.
After visiting this pazo, we'll head over to Mount Gaiás, where the City of Culture can be found. Once we're here, we'll admire the exterior of the main buildings that make up this avant-garde site, designed by the renowned architect Peter Eisenman. Notable spaces within this complex include the Library of Galicia, the Xosé Neira Vilas Auditorium, and a skatepark.
Once this section of the tour ends, you'll have 20 minutes of free time in the City of Culture to grab yourself a coffee and wander around. Afterwards, we'll set off towards the Church of Santa Maria a Real do Sar, a true gem of Romanesque art located just half an hour from the historic centre of Santiago.
We'll walk around the cloister of this church located on the banks of the Sar River, as well as its other important premises. The tour will then continue with a visit to the Sar Collegiate Church Museum, where we'll see an extensive collection of medieval religious art.
From the museum, we'll then make our way to our initial meeting point in Santiago, where this 4.5 hour tour will come to an end.
