This day trip to the Ribeira Sacra and Allariz features breathtaking landscapes, rich history, and a visit to one of Orense's most picturesque villages. Explore the oldest monastery in Galicia and enjoy a scenic boat ride on the River Sil.

Description

Meet us at the entrance to the Universal Hotel, located in Plaza de Galicia. We'll hop on a bus and leave Santiago de Compostela behind us as we kick off our day trip to the Ribeira Sacra.

We'll navigate our way through La Coruña, Pontevedra, and Orense provinces in search of our launch point: Santo Estevo de Ribas de Sil Pier. Let's set sail!

As we climb aboard, we'll enjoy a tranquil ride along the Sil Canyons, a deep gorge that has become a symbol of the Ribeira Sacra. During our trip, we'll also be treated to views of vineyards in the area, as well as lush forests of oak and chestnut trees.

After an hour and a half of sailing, we'll dock at the departure pier and go by bus to a viewpoint over the Cañones de Sil. From this site, we'll get a unique panoramic view of the Sil River and the towering cliffs that border it.

This region isn't famous just for its landscapes, if not also for its rich history. We'll visit the monastery of San Pedro de Rocas to gain deeper insight into the region's storied past, which is one of the oldest monasteries in Galicia. Did you know its origins can be traced back to the 6th century? During our visit, we'll uncover the fascinating history of monastic life and delve into intriguing facts about the traditional trades of the Ribeira Sacra.

Our next stop brings us to Allariz, one of the most beautiful villages in Orense. You'll have an hour and a half to enjoy lunch at any of the local restaurants, and after, we'll take a guided tour of the medieval village.

We'll stroll through plazas, over bridges, and enjoy the typical houses of Allariz while discussing the storied past of this area. We'll also reveal which famous TV shows and movies were filmed in this region.

After an exciting and immersive 11 hours, we'll return to the meeting point, bringing the day to an end.
